One of the missions of the Center for Instructional Support is to monitor the classroom environment of some 167 general-use classrooms on the UH Manoa campus. Each general-use classroom has the following "minimum elements":

  • Chairs (up to the posted maximum seating capacity)
  • An Instructor's chair or table
  • Chalkboards or Markerboards (please erase at the end of class). Chalkboard supplies are handled by the Custodial Services, ext. 68265. Markboard pens supplied by instructor.
  • A table-top lecturnette or podium.
  • Functional electrical switches and outlets
  • Projection Screen
  • Classroom lighting control
  • Air conditioning system (optional)
  • Blinds or Shades for room darkening

Faculty and staff are encouraged to report any problems regarding these "minimum elements." If you want to check whether or not the classroom you are using is designated as a general-use classroom, call CIS at ext. 68075 or send e-mail to the Center for Instructional Support.

How to Report Problems?

Report any problems and concerns regarding the classroom environment to CIS. CIS will act as a laison with the appropriate UHM office/department and will provide status reports back to the faculty/staff.

Custodial Services (ext. 68265)

The Custodial section of the Buildings and Grounds Management Office (BGM) provides the following service:

  • Clean up of spillage (except for hazardous materials)

  • Emptying waste baskets

  • Floor cleaning

  • Light bulb replacement

  • Supplying Chalk and Chalkboard material (two erasers per room)

  • supplying specific number of chairs

Environmental Health and Safety Office (ext. 68660)

The Environmental Health and Safety Office provides for the clean-up and monitoring of hazardous materials.
